Dr Prathamesh Pai is currently the Director of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Head Neck Cancer Institute of India (HNCII). He has been Professor and Chief of the Department of Head & Neck Surgical Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Mumbai, and a teacher for the MCh (Head and Neck Surgical Oncology), a structured three-year training programme recognised by the National Medical Council.
Dr. Pai is a well-known head neck surgeon with a special interest in thyroid and parathyroid cancers, ora cancer, transoral laryngeal laser surgery, as well as skull base surgery with focus on minimal access. He began the Multidisciplinary Skull Base Clinic and has been the convener since 2007. He started the Laser Course at TMH in 2014. He was part of the weeklong preceptorship programme for thyroid cancer at TMH.

He has been Professor and Head of the Department of Head & Neck Surgical Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), Mumbai, and a teacher for the MCh (Head and Neck Surgical Oncology), a structured three-year training programme recognised by the National Medical Council.
- Pai is currently the President of the Foundation for Head Neck Oncology, a national multidisciplinary organization committed to raise the standards and practice of Head and Neck Oncology in the country.
- Founding Secretary of the Indian Society of Thyroid Surgeons.
- Member of several national and international associations including the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, American Head Neck Society, Skull Base Surgeons of India, UICC, North American Skull Base Society, American College of Surgeons and Asia Pacific Thyroid Society.

- Dr Pai is an active researcher and has been part of several basic and clinical trials and is currently conducting a pivotal large, randomised trial on oral metronomic chemotherapy in advanced operable oral cancers which is awaiting analysis.
- With over 147 peer reviewed publications he has articles on Thyroid cancers, Endoscopic Endonasal Skull Base resection, Temporal Bone cancers, Elective Neck Dissection in Early Oral Cancers, Near-Total Laryngectomy, Transoral Laser Surgery for Early Glottic Cancers, amongst his more cited ones.
- Coedited the popular Dr. Pradhan’s monograph on Surgery for the larynx and hypopharynx.
- Co-editor of the popular Stell Maran’s Textbook of Head Neck Surgery.
